“Make a memory.”
That was the catchphrase of Sheffield’s head football coach Mike Barr in the fall and now all the way to Sheffield head track and field coach Jason Snell in the spring.
That means this afternoon when Sheffield High School will send 15 qualifiers to the District 9 2A Track and Field Championships at Brookville High School.
“We are going in open-minded and open-hearted,” said Snell, who has made it a point to help his athletes enjoy Sheffield’s last high school sports season before grades 9-12 consolidate with Warren or Eisenhower beginning next fall. “Our goal tomorrow is to have fun, take in the moment, enjoy that moment, and embrace being a Sheffield Wolverine — not only for themselves, but for the many, many generations before them. Leave it all out there, give every last bit of effort we have, and do it together. Make a memory … together.”
Following are the qualifiers: Colby Barr, 100M, 200M, 400M, 4x100M relay; Sarah Hoffman, 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, 4x100M Relay; Maddy Snell, 100M, 4x100M relay; Chase Fetzeck, 400M, 4x100M relay alternate; Emre Morgan, discus; Alex Marfink, 110M hurdles; Aamond Bowman, high jump, triple jump; Dajayna Thomas, 4x100M relay; Tymber Barr, 4x100M relay; and Kaitlyn Finch, 4x100M relay alternate.
The remaining qualifiers are Avri Hornburg, 4x100M relay alternate; Jack Chapman, 4x100M relay; Isaac Hammerbeck, 4x100M relay; Hayden Holden, 4x100M relay; Andrew Kyler, 4x100M relay alternate.
“Hopefully, (we) will have some district medal winners to report after Friday as well,” said Snell. “Seed-wise, Colby (Barr) has a real chance to knock on the door for states in any event he is in. All of these amazing athletes have been known to continue to amaze me, so you never know what kind of day we might have or who may pull off something special.”
