Eagles post softball win over Lakers

YOUNGSVILLE — Youngsville picked up its fourth win of the season Tuesday with a 12-2 six-inning victory over the visiting Mercyhurst Prep Lakers.

The Eagles were able to pull ahead early when Alyssa Gentz singled and eventually scored on Hailey Gray’s RBI single to start the scoring.

The lead grew to four in the second when Kamden Swearingen and Kennedy Allen both reached base to start the inning. Alyssa Goss followed with an RBI single while Allen and Goss would both score on Gray’s second and third RBI of the afternoon soon after.

Youngsville added a fifth run in the third as well as three more in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Gentz, Gray and Rectenwald all singled and scored with Swearingen also adding an RBI hit in the inning.

The Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the game via the mercy rule. Paige Stover roped a double down the left field line to start the inning and Gray walked before a two-run triple from Ireland Abraham. Rectenwald delivered an RBI hit to plate Abraham and the game ended when Allen smacked a double that scored Rectenwald.

Gray finished the day 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI. Rectenwald added three hits and three runs and Swearingen and Gentz also had multi-hit games. Swearingen got the win pitching six innings and striking out 10 while allowing just one earned run on three hits.

Youngsville is back in action Thursday when it hosts Iroquois in a region contest.

WARREN SWEPT BY MCDOWELL

ERIE — Host McDowell made quick work of Warren’s softball team in 15-0 and 16-0 Region 6 wins on Tuesday. The Trojans scored in every inning of two three-inning wins.

Senior pitcher Gabby Deluca was perfect over three innings in the first McDowell run-rule victory. She struck out all nine batters she faced. She also had a double and two RBIs for the Trojans, who improve to 14-2 overall and 9-2 in the region. Ayva Mickel was 3-for-3 with a double and five RBIs, but McDowell only had five hits. The Trojans walked 13 times and had three hit batters.

In game two, freshman Emma Mickel shut Warren out over three innings without allowing a hit and striking out six. She walked one batter. Offensively, Mickel had two triples.

Warren is 8-6 overall and 5-6 in Region 6.
