GUYS MILLS — Tied at one game apiece in regulation, WAHS’ Unified Bocce team defeated Maplewood in the Golden Frame 2-1 on Tuesday at Maplewood High School.
It was the first match of the winter for Warren’s new program as “our season has been a bit delayed due to weather,” said coach Cayla Leichtenberger.
“Our team was hesitant in the first match, but really focused once they got their nerves out,” she said. “Maplewood was a strong team, showing good accuracy. Our team put a lot of thought into strategy on the second and golden frames, resulting in a win. All eight team members contributed tonight. I’m proud they came back after being down 1-0.”
Warren’s next match is on Tuesday at Seneca, and the Dragons are home in the Joseph A. Massa Gymnasium at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, and at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, for “Pack the Stands Night.” Admission is free and students and the community are encouraged to attend.
WAHS Unified Bocce members are Jacob Elmquist, Sophie Walker, Leo Westover, Sophia Fromknecht, Sammy White, Eric Irons, Ella Getner and Keely Southworth.
