Dragons win at the buzzer
Crissey’s bucket is difference in 47-45 Region 5 victory over Franklin
FRANKLIN — Logan Crissey’s buzzer-beater gave Warren’s boys basketball team a key 47-45 Region 5 win on Friday at Franklin Area High School.
Franklin (6-5 overall, 1-3 in region) battled back from a 20-13 first-quarter deficit to tie the halftime score at 29-29. After Warren built back a nine-point second-half lead, Franklin’s putback with eight seconds left in the game tied the score again at 45-45.
“After a timeout, we pushed the ball up the right side to try to get Logan a shot,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “He made a quick move to the baseline on the catch and hit a pull-up 15-footer with about three seconds left; their desperation shot was off the mark.”
Warren improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the region, but not without adjustments.
“We talked about their ability to make shots and not get rattled, that a lot of their points were going to come from three-point land, and they did,” said Berdine. “They made nine of them. We didn’t make any.
“Early on, we were able to get the ball inside and score easily in the paint,” he said. “Foul trouble curtailed that a little bit, and I thought we did a good job on their leading scorers in the second half. Chase (Sitler) did a good job on (senior guard Will) Findlan, holding him to one hoop and five points in the second half.”
Crissey led Warren with 20 points, Lucas Thrift had 11, Sitler 9, and point guard Leihden Wotorson 4 in the win.
“I thought the kids did a good job early in the third quarter taking the momentum back from them,” said Berdine. “They beat us twice last year at the buzzer, so I guess the basketball gods felt we owed them one.”

TITUSVILLE PINS WARREN
TITUSVILLE — Seven Titusville pins led the Rockets to a 55-14 Region 3 win over the visiting Dragons on Friday at Titusville High School.
“They do have a very nice team,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger, whose Dragons are 1-3 in the region after their second lopsided loss of the week. “We trained through tonight’s match with a very difficult practice last night. Some of our kids were feeling it and didn’t look their best. We were without a few starters tonight. We will regroup and get ready for next Wednesday.”
Despite the loss, Carter Campbell had a 13-10 decision at 152 pounds for Warren and Adika Fiscus won by major decision at 133.
Titusville is 4-0 in the region with a matchup against an undefeated-in-region Corry later this month.
