Warren wrestling hopes to ‘build on the momentum’

There’s good news and bad news for Warren’s wrestling team.
“We are without two of our top placers from last season,” said head coach Glenn Baldensperger, whose Dragons are scheduled to open on Tuesday at Franklin. “Ethen Ringer transferred to North East and Trey Carrington is out with an injury… But that creates opportunity for some other kids to step into the lineup.”
Seniors include Doug Harkins, Cameron Williams, Conner Zaffino, and Adika Fiscus, who is a two-time regional qualifier — last season at 114 pounds — with 58 career high school victories.
“We have awesome numbers both at the high school and junior high levels,” said Baldensperger. “This creates a better atmosphere in the room to motivate kids to get better. You can’t just walk on the team and have a spot.”
Those numbers include 10 juniors, including Ryan Letko, Patrick Ross, Jacob Ferino, Sebastian Oyola, Landon Nelson, Joe Krall, Blake Albaugh, Elijah Snyder, Tyson Harkins, and Scott Nichols; seven sophomores, Kobe Zaffino, Carter Campbell, Colby Zinger, Chris Orth, Izaya Conklin, Adam Yeager, and Carrington; and 10 freshmen, Cole Fitzgerald, Aidan Sweet, Cameron Hagg, Shawn Lang, Andrew Knapp, Justin Krall, Lucas Gardner, Timmy Giger, KC Nelson, and Brian Polley.
The boys coaching staff includes Garret Smead, Dan Pascuzzi, Steve Siliano, and Tristan Dolan, and junior high coaches Jimmy Kramer and Jarod Amoroso.
“Our goals are to improve every week,” said Baldensperger, whose Dragons were 9-4 in dual matches a season ago. “(We want to) build on the momentum that has started the last couple of years. We are excited to get into competition and see where we’re at and go from there.”
