Warren tops Olean for 3rd straight victory

ALLEGANY, N.Y. — Warren’s boys basketball team won its third straight and second in two days on Saturday — 61-49 over Olean (N.Y.) — in the Joe DeCerbo Memorial Holiday Showcase at Allegany-Limestone Middle/High School.

Chase Sitler scored 10 of his 16 points in Warren’s 18-8 first quarter, and the Dragons kept a lead the rest of the way to improve to 4-2 overall.

“Another physical, close game,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine of his 310th career head coaching win. “I felt we did an excellent job at both offensive and defensive rebounding. We limited them to one shot a lot and held a big advantage on the offensive end as well. We also cut down on our turnovers, and that always helps.”

The Dragons were 8-of-11 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, including Logan Crissey going 6-of-8 with Olean (1-6) forced to foul late.

Crissey also finished with 16 points for Warren, which next travels to Mercyhurst Prep on Thursday.

For the second straight game, four Dragons reached double figures in scoring with Lucas Thrift scoring seven of his 13 points in Warren’s 22-17 fourth quarter, and Jacob McMeans adding 12 in the game, including three of the Dragons’ six 3-pointers. Grady Corey had two second-half buckets and an assist to a cutting Sitler for a fourth-quarter layup.
