MARIENVILLE — The Youngsville Lady Eagles quickly turned things around Saturday, opening the weekend with a 1-1 record in the Forest Area Tip-off Tournament at East Forest High School.

The tournament was delayed a day by weather and saw Youngsville open with a 41-9 loss to Union/AC Valley before rebounding for a 34-17 victory over Tidioute Charter later that same day.

“I was very impressed with the progress we made in such a short amount of time,” said second-year coach Morgan Cook-Haibach. “Our second game was definitely a great team win.”

Youngsville actually started the game with Tidioute Charter with a scoreless first quarter and trailed 4-0 after one. In the second, however, the Eagles found their offensive touch turning a small deficit into a 19-6 lead heading into the locker room.

Riley Robinault scored 17 of her game-high 25 points during the second quarter outburst and Youngsville only increased its lead from there. Robinault’s 25 points were supplemented by six points from freshman Kaylee Huffman, two points from another freshman Haley Kent and a point from newcomer Lilly Jespersen.

The strong team win helped erase the sting of Saturday’s opener against Union/AC Valley where the Eagles managed just nine points in defeat. Robinault finished with seven of those points and Huffman had the other bucket for Youngsville.

Robinault was named Youngsville’s most valuable player for the tournament, finishing with 32 points over the two contests.

The Lady Eagles are back in action Tuesday when they welcome county-rival Eisenhower for their home opener. The game will be varsity only, beginning at 6 p.m.
