Lakewood Y hosts Merrill Lynch tourney
The Lakewood YMCA hosted its annual Merrill Lynch Tennis Tournament this past weekend.
Andy Dollar won the Rising Stars Singles Division with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bentley Huber.
In the High School Singles Division, Adam Strandburg beat Alex Watkins 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Grace Kutschke beat Grace Carlson 6-1, 6-0 in the first round before Myla Brainard beat Kutschke 6-1, 6-1 in the prequarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Watkins beat Brainard 6-2, 6-2; Yaman Aypek topped Jason Leenders 6-3, 6-2; and Strandburg beat Gavin Henry 6-2, 7-5. In the semifinals, Strandburg beat Chase Haaksma 4-6, 6-4, 12-10, while Watkins topped Aypek 6-0, 6-0.
In the Men’s Open Singles Division, David Mikotowicz beat John Sinnott 6-4, 7-6 (6), 10-6 in the final. Tim Henry topped Mark Boutillette 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Mikotowicz beat Cavan Boutillette 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 and Sinnott beat Henry 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals.
In the Men’s Open Doubles Division, Gavin Ferretti and Sinnott beat Fletcher DeMink and Connor Barnes 6-2, 6-2 in the final. In the quarterfinals, DeMink and Barnes topped Riley Farrugello and Kutschke 6-0, 6-0; Christian Oaks and Cavan Boutillette beat Dylan Ansell and Shane Federko 6-0, 6-2; Ferretti and Sinnott beat Strandburg and Joshua Westover 6-1, 6-1; and Gary Thompson and Bob Olson beat Declan Boutillette and Mark Boutillette 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, DeMink and Barnes beat Oaks and Cavan Boutillette 6-4, 6-0, while Ferretti and Sinnott beat Thompson and Olson 6-3, 6-1.
In the Open Mixed Doubles Division, Finn Ordiway and Grace Carr beat Kutschke and Haaksma 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
