Zaffino finishes 4th at D10 golf

MEADVILLE — Three Dragons competed last week at the District 10 3A Boys Golf Tournament at The Country Club of Meadville. Warren senior Conner Zaffino finished fourth overall with a two-day 163.

“Conner shot an 84 the first round to make the first day cut, then grinded out a 79 to finish his high school career,” said Warren coach Nate Sandberg. “(Seniors) Reid Olsen and Collin Ellis also qualified for districts, but did not make the cut. Regardless, they had great senior seasons. Warren also had four girls qualify for districts, Maddie Walker, Allie Lauffenburger, Elissa Errett and Kate Shippee.”

Meadville had the top three finishers, but only the top two advanced to states on Oct. 21-22 at the Penn State White Course in State College. Luke Ferry shot a two-day 151 to win the D10 3A title by five strokes, and Meadville teammate Patrick Mahoney was second at 156.

Trailing by a stroke entering the second day at the D10 tournament, Ferry shot a 73 — the day’s best score by six strokes. Zaffino was tied for second with Mahoney at 79.

Starting at $2.99/week.
