Youngsville sweeps Forest Area in volleyball
YOUNGSVILLE — Four weeks ago, Youngsville needed five sets to conquer Forest Area for its first win of the season.
On Friday, it didn’t take nearly that long.
The Eagles swept past the Fires, dominating from the start in a 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 win at Youngsville High School.
Youngsville’s stiffest test came in the opening set where the Eagles led just 12-10 before seizing control and jumping to a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Youngsville’s Alyssa Gentz clicked off six straight service points to give the Eagles a 16-8 advantage. The lead eventually stretched to nine before a pair of Kamden Swearingen aces sandwiched around a Mandie Irvine kill closed out the set.
The hosts scored seven consecutive points during a decisive third set stretch, closing out the match in straight sets.
Riley Robinault had seven kills and 10 digs to pace the Eagles with Madilynn Johnson adding 20 assists and 12 digs of her own. Rachael Lucks had five aces and four kills, Mandie Irvine four kills, and Swearingen and Becca Farrell had four kills and seven digs apiece.
Youngsville’s junior varsity team made it a clean sweep Friday with a 2-0 win, 25-10, 25-15. Maci Benton had six assists and eight aces for the winners while Haley Kent finished with three kills.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday, visiting Cochranton.
