Warren XC stays unbeaten in region with sweep of Ike

Warren’s cross country teams swept host Eisenhower on Tuesday at Eisenhower High School.

Warren had the top four finishers in the boys’ race to win 17-43, and the Lady Dragons finished 1-2-3 to win 17-38.

“We had a good showing for the day,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “Coming away with two wins was the goal and to move one step closer towards our goals. We did that on a fun course to run with a lot of people we know. We are really looking forward to this weekend’s invite.”

Warren’s Sam Lindell was first out of 17 in the boys’ race in 17:28 followed by teammate Cam Williams in 17:50. Warren freshmen Cole Fitzgerald (18:24) and Leyton Salvatore (18:54) were third and fourth, respectively, for the Dragons. Eisenhower and Warren split the next four finishers with Ike’s Joe Mistretta fifth at 19:06, followed by Warren’s Reilly Morgan (19:34), Eisenhower’s Alex Lund (20:13), Warren’s Grayson Collopy (20:21), and Eisenhower’s Carson Ferman (21:17). Other Eisenhower finishers in the boys’ race were Mason Britt (10th, 21:27), Brice Ludwick (13th, 23:20), Aidon Knowles (14th, 23:43), TJ McAuley (15th, 23:44), and Jonathan Bogniak (17th, 26:03). For Warren, Gavin Heeter was 11th in 22:10, Jack Monroe 12th in 22:50, and Jonah Brinkley 16th in 25:15.

Warren’s Morgan Alexander won her second straight Region 4 race in 21:11, followed by teammates Cassidy Britton (21:27) and Leona Hovan (22:23), who edged Eisenhower’s Emily Grosch, fourth in 22:24. Warren’s Riley Evan was fifth in 22:44 and teammate Adi Cullers sixth in 23:26. Other Lady Dragon finishers were Loralei Johnson (11th, 26:38), Rose Rioux (12th, 27:41), and Ella Cull (14th, 30:29).

For the Lady Knights, Izzy Grosch was seventh in 23:28, Peyton Kellogg eighth in 23:29, Callie Delp ninth in 24:44, Lainey Font 10th in 25:52, and Lilly Cathcart 13th in 29:11.

“At our final home meet of the season, we recognized our seniors Emily Grosch (third year), Peyton Kellogg (sixth year), Aidon Knowles (first year), TJ McAulay (third year), and Joe Mistretta (sixth year),” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach. “They are a super group of kids. I saw a lot of good things out there today. Our first-year varsity boys all had significant improvement in their home course times, and many of the varsity girls had personal bests.”
