Scholar scores five times as Knights beat Cambridge Springs
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Eisenhower’s Lexi Scholar had quite the game Thursday as she had five of the Knights’ six goals in their 6-4 Region 3 win over Cambridge Springs.
“We started out a little flat to start the game, but once we settled down and played our style of soccer we were fine,” said Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson.
Scholar struck first when she found the back of the net at the 29-minute mark.
The home team tied the game and then took the lead when Addi Encosz, who scored all of her team’s goals, scored two goals in a 30-second span to give her team the lead at the 24-minute mark.
It was Scholar’s turn to shine when she scored three goals in two minutes and 30 seconds to give Eisenhower a 4-2 lead that it carried into halftime.
Eisenhower started the second half determined not to let the game slip away and kept the ball far away from goalkeeper Tracey Jakubczak, who made seven saves in the game.
Encosz did her part to keep the game close as she scored the next two goals to tie the game with 16:11 left in the game.
Scholar scored her fifth goal of the game with just 4:11 remaining to give the Knights a 5-4 lead.
With the Blue Devils pushing the ball downfield, it was the Knights’ Lily Jesperson who picked the perfect time for her first goal of the season and gave Eisenhower the breathing room they needed when she dropped a beautiful back-post shot into the net with 3:15 remaining.
“When we are in our groove and play our game, we are a tough team to beat,” Johnson said. “We just have to be in that groove earlier in games and then stay in it for the entire game.”
Eisenhower improved to 8-4-1 overall and 4-2 in Region 3.
