Lady Dragons move on to D10 title game

FAIRVIEW -- Warren's girls soccer team avenged a regular season loss to defeated Girard, 2-1, on Tuesday at Fairview High School, advancing the Lady Dragons to the District 10 3A championship match.
"It's not often a team gets to avenge an early season loss," said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons (11-8) advance to play Harbor Creek for the D10 title. "To do it in the playoffs was a pretty clutch performance by the girls.
"Peyton Wotorson scored our first-half goal via a through-ball from Lani Wenzel," said Ordiway. "Peyton beat her defender and then beat a charging goalkeeper to the ball and was able to touch it around her and bury it in the back of the net.
"Meea Irwin scored our second-half goal on a short pass from Peyton near the box," added the coach. "Meea was able to turn on the receive and spin around her defender and slide it past the keeper. Meea flashed a lot of skill on that play.
"Peyton put a lot of pressure on the defense for us," he added. "You could tell Girard was definitely concerned with her ability. Our defense was tough all night. Charlotte Keeports and Leyna Irwin were excellent on our left side. They had to deal with a lot of traffic, especially in the second half. Our unsung hero of the night was Kaylee Cyphert without a doubt. We challenged Kaylee with marking their best player and leading scorer. Without Kaylee's effort, we do not win that game."
Girard, a 3-1 winner over Warren on Sept. 5, finishes 12-7 overall.
