Eisenhower, Warren impress in victories
SAEGERTOWN — The Eisenhower boys soccer team took the long trip to Saegertown on Wednesday to face the Panthers and really only needed the first half to win another Region 4 game 6-1.
The Knights’ Derek Guiher got the visitors on the board early with a perfect corner kick just 4:55 into the game to go up 1-0.
Eisenhower would be aggressive the entire first half and it paid off for the Knights as just five minutes later, Rever Caudill took a pass from Mason Degnan and found the back of the net for his first of two goals in the game.
The scoring continued at a fast and furious pace as just two minutes later Logan Degnan scored on a header off a nice pass from Guiher to make it 3-0.
The Knights were far from finished scoring as Logan Degnan would get the second of his three goals in the game 10 minutes later on a pass from Aiden Stitler for a 4-0 lead.
Eisenhower got another goal 15 minutes later when Caudill got his second goal of the game on a pass from David Abadie. Logan Degnan would complete his hat trick with four minutes remaining in the half.
The Knights took a 6-0 lead into halftime and would eventually win the game 6-1.
Eisenhower is back in action today for a 4 p.m. game at Commodore Perry.
WARREN BACK IN WIN COLUMN
OIL CITY — Freshman Gabe Dougherty had his first high school hat trick in Warren’s 7-0 Region 5 win Wednesday at Oil City.
In addition to Dougherty’s three goals, Quinn Norris, Jack Chapman, Trey Carrington and Finn Ordiway put shots away and the Dragons snapped a three-game losing streak.
“We got back to playing unselfish soccer, limiting touches and moving the ball as a team,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair, whose Dragons are 7-6 overall and 5-6 in the region.
Norris had four assists, and Dougherty, Gavin Rex, and Casey Rich also assisted goals.
“Quinn was fantastic tonight and got everyone involved,” said Blair. “Gabe is really coming into his own. He gets himself into great spots and took full advantage of his chances.”
Ordiway had 11 steals from midfield and Dom Holmberg led the defense with nine takeaways.
Oil City drops to 0-9 in Region 5.
