Eisenhower loses to Cochranton on Senior Night
RUSSELL — Eisenhower honored its seniors Monday night against the Cochranton Cardinals, unfortunately the Knights lost in three tough sets, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-9 in Region 2 girls volleyball.
Eisenhower was led by their seniors as Caroline Smyth had six kills and a block; Marissa Gourley had two kills and was 100% on her serves; Rhiannon Cook added a pair of aces; and Alexis Davis did an outstanding job in the defensive specialist role she has played all season.
The Knights lost on the court, but second-year head coach Lori Pascuzzi had high praise for her seniors.
“Each of the girls will be missed as they each had individual skills that helped make our team better,” she said. “Caroline was our vocal leader and an offensive force all season. She has been an amazing role model for our younger players. She gave up individual glory for the betterment of the team. Any coach would love to have her on their team.”
Pascuzzi will also miss Gourley’s skill set.
“She transitioned from middle hitter to outside and really blossomed,” she said. “She is a powerful hitter and a steady server.”
The remaining two seniors Cook and Davis may not have received a ton of minutes on the court but each have served important roles for the Knights.
“Both of these girls have worked extremely hard for us and have really helped the younger players,” Pascuzzi said. “Cook has been a spot server and did well in that role for us and Davis, in spite of only playing the sport for two years, has improved tremendously and is one of our hardest workers. Each of these girls will be missed and will leave some big shoes to fill.”
Eisenhower is back in action tonight when it travels to Youngsville in the rubber match of the backyard brawl. Jayvee action begins at 6 p.m.
