Dragons top Bradford for 2nd time in boys soccer action 5-1
BRADFORD — Warren’s boys soccer team waited for the last game of the regular season to earn a win that wasn’t a shutout. The Dragons are 10-7 overall and finish 7-7 in Region 5 after their 5-1 win on Monday over host Bradford.
The Owls finished 3-10-1 in the region, but actually held a 1-0 lead early in this contest.
“We have a habit of starting slow that we need to shake, but once we settled in, we controlled the game,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair, whose Dragons are poised to advance to the District 10 3A semifinals beginning Tuesday, Oct. 22.
After the early deficit, Warren got two goals from Quinn Norris, and a goal each from Jack Chapman, Gabe Dougherty, and Luc Wilkins.
“Quinn, Gavin (Rex), Timmy (Giger) and Casey (Rich) set the pace of the game and connected every level of the field,” said Blair. “They all did a fantastic job of playing direct and picking out vertical passes, not just being content in possession.”
Chapman assisted three goals, and Norris and Dougherty added assists.
“We have to pride ourselves on outworking teams and it was great to see us do just that tonight, especially as we get closer to the postseason,” said Blair. “Gabe, Luc, Jack, and Trey (Carrington) were nonstop all game, winning balls and giving us extra opportunities in their end.”
Defensively, Chase Sitler led Warren with 17 steals.
