In a battle of Region 4 unbeatens, Warren’s boys cross country team earned the 25-30 win over visiting North East on Tuesday at Betts Park. The Lady Dragons also stayed undefeated with an easier go of it, 16-43.
“Today was senior night and our boys team’s biggest challenge on the season,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “North East was also undefeated coming into this meet. We talked about how the boys had to step up big today and they exceeded expectations. I’m very proud of this boys team coming away with a big win today.”
Senior Sam Lindell was first — by a mile — on senior day with a 16:02, a personal-best by one second. Warren’s other senior on the boys team, Cam Williams helped secure a team win with a second-place 17:21 — nine seconds ahead of North East’s third-place finisher Landen Greishaw. Warren freshman Cole Fitzgerald was fourth out of 22 runners in 17:37 and freshman teammate Leyton Salvatore was fifth just four seconds later. Grayson Collopy finished seventh for Warren in 18:14, which was huge because North East had the next eight finishers.
Other Warren finishers included Gavin Heeter (16th, 20:36), Jack Monroe (20th, 22:08), and Jonah Brinkley (22nd, 24:00).
“The girls had another excellent meet, putting our top six girls in the top seven of the race,” said Dustin.
Emma Peterson was first (19:38), Morgan Alexander second (20:05), senior Cassidy Britton third (20:23), Leona Hovan fourth (20:48), and Riley Evan sixth (21:19) to round out Warren’s scorers. Adison Cullers was seventh out of 17 in 22:13 to show the Lady Dragons’ depth. Loralei Johnson was 12th in 24:30, and teammate Ella Cull 16th in 26:14.
“Both teams had some great times today as we get ready for the end of the season,” said Dustin. “It was a great way to send off our seniors, Sam Lindell, Cameron Williams, and Cassidy Britton.”
