In their last Region 5 battle, Meadville staved off a furious Warren comeback with a 3-2 overtime home win.

On Monday at War Memorial Field, the Dragons held the Bulldogs to one goal, but it was the only goal of the game, scored off a corner kick in double overtime for the regular-season sweep.

“It was a frustrating performance,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair, whose Dragons are 6-6 overall and 4-6 in Region 5. “We didn’t move the ball well, so we never got into a constant flow.”

The defense and goalkeeper Adon Maier battled ferociously to keep Meadville (8-2 in region) off the scoreboard.

“Adon was massive for us,” said Blair. “He made a lot of important saves and was a huge reason we were in the game for as long as we were.

“Despite an inconsistent game for us as a team, Chase (Sitler) was really impressive for all 100 minutes,” added Blair. “He cleans up a lot of mistakes for us. He’s a special player.”

Sitler was credited with 28 takeaways.

“Gabe (Dougherty) was a great spark for us and brought a ton of energy,” said Blair of the freshman. “He’s getting more confident every time he touches the field, and we’re excited about his development.”
