Warren tops 3A Erie 4-1
Warren’s girls tennis team topped Erie 4-1 on Tuesday at Betts Park.
“The girls were excited for this one today as it was our first (Class) 3A opponent of the season and we knew it would be a competitive matchup for us,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino.
At first singles, Lucy Harrison was defeated by Riley Gloystein 4-6, 1-6.
Second singles provided the most exciting match of the day where Grace Carr came back from a set down to defeat Eliza Borczon 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-1.
“This was some great tennis from both players with both of the first two sets coming down to a few points here or there,” said Pellegrino. “In the third, Grace made some major adjustments to her game and was more patient, extending the rallies, which was the difference-maker. Grace really turned it up in that final set with big serves and great net play.”
At third singles, Ella Card defeated Arden Claudio 6-2, 6-3.
“This match was closer than the scores indicate,” said Pellegrino. “Ella played some smart, high-percentage tennis and it paid off in the big moments.”
The first doubles pair of Alannah Garza and Maddy McDunn defeated Jordan Salamon and Ali Easly 6-0, 6-0.
In second doubles, the Warren pair of Sarah Harvey and Grace Carlson defeated the pair of Celeste Cole and Autumn Sala 6-0, 6-0.
Anna Courson and Lilly Seyler won in JV play.
“Our doubles were extremely efficient today and were aggressive from start to finish,” said Pellegrino.
“We’re in week four and still dealing with some injuries, but have been proud of how our team has come together to grab another team win,” added Pellegrino, whose Dragons are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Region 1 play.
