Warren, Sheffield earn road sweeps

HARBORCREEK — Warren’s volleyball team is 8-0 after a 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 road sweep on Tuesday at Harbor Creek.

After a five-set win at state-ranked Clarion on Monday, “we played a little flat in the second set, but were able to grind out the points when we needed them,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “It’s another important team win and Region 5 win as part of this long stretch of away games. Back on the road Thursday at Erie.”

Warren’s Maddy Jones finished with 16 kills and six digs; Lindsay Madigan 27 assists, six digs and three aces; Madelyn Nosel nine kills, eight digs and two aces; Julia Getner three kills; Malysia Sorensen 26 digs and three assists; Lilly Newton two kills and two blocks; and Sophie Walker six digs and two aces.

In a 25-23, 24-26, 15-2 junior varsity win for Warren, Hailey Cabisca had six kills, three digs; Brooke Sherry seven kills and two aces; Lara Pearson three kills and three digs; Brynn Norris 14 assists and six digs; Peyton Cabisca three kills; Addison Brown two kills; Michaela Dolan four assists and two aces; Addison Ristau six digs; and Paiden Johnson 19 digs and three assists.

SHEFFIELD TOPS KANE

KANE — Sheffield’s volleyball team got back in the win column on Tuesday by sweeping Kane 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.

Madison Connolly had 21 digs and five kills; Emily Davidson 14 digs; and Lily Richards 14 assists and three aces for Sheffield (3-5).

“Our goal each match is to minimize our mistakes,” said Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay. “That comes with performing fundamental volleyball skills consistently. Right now, we are struggling with consistency. Kane is struggling this season as well; same issues as us — young, little varsity playing experience, trying different lineups to see what works. We just played a little better than they did tonight. We are starting to look more comfortable in our lineup, gaining experience every match, adjusting to the varsity pace of play, starting to see more communication and leadership on the court, even though we have some very quiet girls. One match at a time. We continue to pass pretty well, which allows us to be in system. Goal now is to jump higher, swing through the ball, and get more kills.

In a 25-23, 19-25, 15-10 junior varsity win, Abby Roell had 11 digs for Sheffield, Sydney Barr four kills and Peyton Heeter seven assists.

SAEGERTOWN SWEEPS YOUNGSVILLE

YOUNGSVILLE — Saegertown played like the District 10 powerhouse it has been in recent years, defeating Youngsville 3-0 in volleyball action Tuesday at Youngsville High School.

The Panthers were dominant from the start, winning games by scores of 25-9, 25-5 and 25-8.

The match was the last in a weeklong stretch that included a total of five matches. The Eagles (1-8) are now off until Friday when they welcome county foe Sheffield.

Madi Johnson finished with five assists and Alyssa Gentz had five digs for the Eagles in the loss.
