Tuesday thriller
Warren rallies past Prep in five
Not a bad ticket to start the week as a Dragons fan.
Trailing 2-1, Warren outlasted Cathedral Prep down to the wire for a 15-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14 nonregion win at Warren Area High School.
“Great atmosphere for an early-season match,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan, whose Dragons are 3-0. “The Flannel Panel (student cheering section) was awesome and brought a lot of energy to the gym. Cathedral Prep is a very physical team with some really nice attackers up front. They also served really well, so when we settled in and made some passes, we were able to stay on the offensive. Brooke Sherry stepped up big-time and played with a lot of confidence filling in for an injured Maddy Jones. Madelyn Nosel had a huge game on the outside as well. Sophie Walker had some clutch serves and lots of athletic plays were made by Malysia Sorensen and Lindsay Madigan.”
“Very nice team win, everyone staying focused against a great team, hopefully giving us some momentum heading toward region play on Thursday,” Dolan added.
In the thriller, Madelyn Nosel had 24 kills and 15 digs; Lindsay Madigan 39 assists, eight digs and six kills; Brooke Sherry 10 kills and five digs; Malysia Sorensen 23 digs and two aces; Sophie Walker eight digs, two aces and two assists; Lauren Fajbik six kills; and Lilly Newton four kills.
The junior varsity also won 25-13, 24-26, 16-14.
For Warren, Peyton Cabisca had three aces, six kills and four digs; Paiden Johnson four aces, three assists and three digs; Addison Ristau four aces and three kills; Sherry six kills; Michaela Dolan four aces and 10 assists; Brynn Norris two kills and 10 assists; Lara Pearson five kills; Grace Schwab two kills; and Addison Brown three aces.
