Sheffield volleyball falls in 3
Sheffield lost in three games — 11-25, 16-25, 23-25 — to DuBois Central Catholic on Thursday at Sheffield High School.
Madison Connolly had 11 digs and seven kills, Emily Davidson 14 digs, Katie Finch five blocks, and Peyton Heeter 12 assists and five digs in the loss.
“The third set was the best volleyball we have played this season,” said Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay. “Due to the loss of one of my varsity starters for the next 4-to-6 weeks because of illness, we shook up the lineup again, bringing freshman Peyton Heeter in to set. We have some work to do in that position, but I am very lucky to have my starting setter for the last four years, Kadence Steffan, on the coaching staff this year, and we will rely on her help to get our young setter up to the challenge. Our serve-receive passing was much improved tonight, allowing us to run our offense. We continue to have struggles with finishing and getting kills, but as our passing and setting continues to improve, we are optimistic that our offensive efficiency will improve. It was fun to watch them compete in the third set. Each set helps them get more comfortable on the court. Shout out to our small, but mighty fan section staying involved in the match and supporting these athletes.”
Sheffield’s junior varsity lost in two. Camryn Sundburg had three kills and Peyton Heeter five assists in the loss.
Next up is the eight-team varsity Brockway tournament today.
