Seneca beats Youngsville
YOUNGSVILLE — Its first win of the season will have to wait for Youngsville.
Much like it has all season, Youngsville played close with its competition — this time the Seneca Bobcats — before ultimately dropping a 3-0 decision 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 on Tuesday at Youngsville High School.
Playing in their home opener, the Eagles (0-3) trailed for much of the opening game before scoring seven out of nine points to get as close as 24-22 before Seneca scored the final point to take a 1-0 lead.
In game two, the hosts jumped out to a 7-2 lead thanks in part to back-to-back aces from senior Kamden Swearingen. The Bobcats stormed back to tie things at 13-13 later in the game and things stayed close the rest of the way with Seneca ultimately going up, 2-0.
Unlike game two, Seneca grabbed control early in the third game, building a 12-4 lead before cruising to the finish line.
Madilynn Johnson led Youngsville with 11 assists and Riley Robinault had a strong outing with 11 kills. Marli Rectenwald had 10 digs and Swearingen ended with four aces.
Seneca also won the junior varsity contest 25-23, 25-16. Maci Benton had four aces and five assists, Gabby Hodak had a pair of aces, and Sophia DePasquale had seven digs and two aces of her own.
Youngsville returns to action Thursday, visiting Rocky Grove.
