Prep routs Warren with 7 first-half touchdowns
ERIE — Less than eight minutes into the first quarter, Prep’s Taijoun Williams already had three long touchdowns. The Ramblers would add four more touchdowns and a field goal in the first half to put away Warren 52-7 on Friday at Dollinger Field.
Prep’s starters scored on every first-half possession and then some; The Ramblers received three touchdown passes from quarterback David Friedman — two 39-yard scores to Williams, a Williams punt return for a touchdown, Matthew Oblich returned a blocked field goal attempt 87 yards for a score, Charbel Latouf had an 86-yard run, and DaZarie Carson added receiving and rushing scores to close the half.
Prep (4-0) had nearly 350 yards of offense in the first half alone, and on the only drive the Ramblers didn’t finish with a score, Cameron Christman kicked a field goal.
While Warren was shut out in the first half, quarterback Brady Shene was 5 of 7 passing, although for short yardage, and Tommaso Clemente nearly took a kickoff to the house, getting dragged down at Prep’s 6-yard line. Roman Hamm blocked a Charlie Blum field goal try, flipping the momentum back to the Ramblers.
“We have to start fast and execute from the get go,” said Warren coach Cody Bupp. “Hats off to Coach Krahe; he has a good ball club. We made too many mistakes early.”
Despite a running clock and shortened third and fourth quarters, the Dragons controlled the second half against new personnel. Warren (0-4) held Prep scoreless and secured the lone second-half touchdown on a near 12-minute drive.
“We challenged the kids at half,” said Bupp. “I told them I want to coach fighters, I want kids that when things get tough, they are going to roll up their sleeves and play with pride. I thought they responded. We came out and forced a fumble on the kickoff, a 3-and-out and then the offense put together a complimentary 12-minute drive with everyone contributing.”
Shene pushed the ball over the goal line with 3:11 left in the fourth quarter, and Blum converted the point-after attempt. Shene had connected with Johnny Sensenig down to the Prep 6-yard line on his lone pass attempt of the half.
Aiden Eger finished the half with nearly 30 yards rushing, and the Dragons ran for 55 yards on the scoring drive.
Warren visits Titusville (3-1) on Friday for its second straight non-region road game.
