Ike runners compete at McQuaid Invite

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Eisenhower cross country had several strong finishes at Saturday’s 59th Annual McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park.

With over 70 schools represented and 341 runners in the varsity girls “small school” race, Ike’s Emily Grosch emerged a medalist with her 43rd-place finish on the three-mile course in 21:16. Teammate Izzy Grosch was 84th in 22:08 and Peyton Kellogg 88th in 22:18.

For Eisenhower’s boys — who finished 27th out of 56 scoring teams, Joe Mistretta was 77th out of 440 in 17:53 and Alex Lund 94th in 18:20. Other Knights included Carson Ferman (173rd, 19:19), Mason Britt (181st, 19:24), Brice Ludwick (258th, 20:24), Aidon Knowles (353rd, 22:06), and Jonathan Bogniak (409th, 24:01).

“We had some strong performances and the conditions were great,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach. “It is quite an experience for the kids to run in an invitational of this size.”

Eisenhower also had four junior high medalists.

In the junior high boys’ 1.6-mile race, Joey Fanelli was 12th out of 349 finishers (in 9:15) to earn a medal, and teammate Benny Matson was also a medalist with a 40th-place finish in 10 minutes. Other Ike junior high boys included Ramsey Williams (199th, 12:06) and Reid Mitchell (250th, 13:05).

Josie Elms and Hanna Lund earned medals in the girls’ junior high 1.6-mile race. Elms finished 12th out of 267 in 10:35, and Lund was 27th in 11:05.
