ECC sweeps Sheffield in St. Marys
ST. MARYS — Elk County Catholic swept visiting Sheffield 25-6, 25-8, 25-12 on Tuesday.
“I received a text this morning that one of my three returning lettermen was sick and unable to go to school today, which required another lineup change that we had no time to work on or even talk about until we were getting on the bus,” said Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay. “As you can imagine, these changes caused some chaos and miscommunication issues early on. Blocking has been a struggle, so our back row is really having to work hard. We started four sophomores tonight and two seniors. Baptism by fire, I guess. Sooner or later, everyone will adjust to the pace of play, but we’re struggling with that early on and (it) is leading to a lot of dig errors. I appreciate their willingness to try to play anywhere, but the growing pains are a bit painful for us all right now.”
Emily Davidson had 19 digs and three kills in the three games, and Madison Connolly seven digs, four assists and three kills for Sheffield (1-3), which plays DuBois Central Catholic on Thursday at Sheffield High School.
Sheffield’s JV lost 25-7, 25-15.
