Warren’s boys soccer team improved to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in Region 5 with an 8-0 shutout of Oil City on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.
It took 16 minutes, but once the Dragons scored, the floodgates opened.
“We played unselfish soccer,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair. “That’s what we’re most proud of. We struggled with the final pass early on, but Timmy (Giger) and Quinn (Norris) got things moving for us by playing with pace and picking out vertical passes. Luc (Wilkins), Jack (Chapman), Trey (Carrington), Gabe (Dougherty) and Gavin (Rex) all gave us strong minutes on the wing, and did a great job stretching the field and sealing the post for a couple easy goals. A lot of the boys had the opportunity to play several positions and impact the game from different areas of the field. We played with more confidence as the game went on and that’s something we’ll try to build on.”
Norris, Giger, Chapman, Carrington, Rex, Dougherty, Wilkins and Casey Rich scored goals, and Carrington had two assists. Wilkins, Giger, Chapman, Brody Alexander and Finn Ordiway added assists.
Defensively, the Dragons didn’t allow many chances, so Jack Lynds and Adon Maier combined on the shutout in goal. Carrington and Chase Sitler had 14 steals apiece for Warren.
