Warren girls post tennis victory
ST. MARYS — Warren’s girls tennis team shut out host St. Marys, 7-0, on Saturday.
“We always enjoy traveling to the D9 schools as they are the only district in the state that still plays the 4/3 format, which we see as a great opportunity to get more players into the varsity lineup,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino.
Playing first singles, Lucy Harrison defeated Roan Lion, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.
“This was a great test for Lucy,” said Pellegrino. “Roan is a talented player who has a big game. It took Lucy a set to get used to the clay courts, but after the first set, she regrouped, changed the game plan, and executed.”
At second singles, Alannah Garza notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sara Regulski.
At third singles, Ella Card defeated Isabelle Furabaugh, 6-0, 6-0.
Fourth singles saw Maddy McDunn defeat Tralynn Ginther, 6-1, 6-1.
In first doubles, Harrison and Garza paired up to grab an 8-2 win over Pilar Pfoutz and Isolde Collins.
At second doubles, Grace Carlson and Sarah Harvey defeated Sam Kahnell and Zoe Romania, 8-1.
At third doubles, Anna Courson and Lilian Seyler grabbed an 8-1 victory over Anna Porkalab and Morgan Hevine.
Warren’s Olivia Romanosky won in junior varsity play.
“We were without a couple key players today due to SATs, so we’re very pleased with how the girls all stepped up and played a role,” said Pellegrino. “Always great to kick off the season with a couple of wins.”
Warren heads back to St Marys on Wednesday to take on Elk County Catholic at Benzinger Park.
