Eisenhower girls win, boys lose
The Eisenhower boys and girls soccer teams were both in action Thursday.
The Lady Knights were on the road as they traveled to St. Marys to face the Lady Dutch and came home with a hard-fought 6-5 win.
Eisenhower’s Lexi Scholar would have a career game and score five of her team’s six goals.
Scholar started the scoring at the 12:22 mark on an unassisted goal. The score would go back and forth as the Lady Dutch scored just six minutes later to tie the game, but that lead was short-lived as Scholar would score again, this time on a pass from Rosalie Rondeau.
St. Marys would score two more goals in the first half to take a 3-2 lead at intermission.
Eisenhower would score just three minutes into the second half on a Shayleigh Albaugh goal from Scholar to tie the game at 3-3.
The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair as the Lady Dutch would retake the lead less than a minute later. They would then score another goal quickly to take a 5-3 lead at the midway point of the second half.
It was at that point that Scholar took over and scored three more goals for Eisenhower to give the Lady Knights a 6-5 lead that would hold up as the final score.
“These girls never gave up today, their effort was outstanding, I could see it in their faces how much they wanted to win,” said Eisenhower head coach Faith Johnson, who earned her first career win. “Sophia Martin and Callan Gigliotti commanded the backfield and played all 80 minutes. In fact, we had several girls who played the entire game. Just a great effort by Samantha Childs, Lexi Scholar, Lilly Jespersen and Emily Grosch. The game was back and forth the entire time and our girls never let up, I’m just so proud of them.”
The boys lost a battle to Mercyhurst Prep 7-2, both goals were scored by senior Logan Degnan. “The boys fought hard today against a very good Prep team,” Knights head coach Mike Taylor said. “I’m very proud of their effort, but they never gave up. We will learn from this and get better.”
