Dragons third at mega match in Meadville
MEADVILLE — Before the official start of school, the Warren golf team had already played over half its region golf matches for the year, finishing third on Monday at The Country Club of Meadville.
McDowell shot a blistering 248 with three of their players finishing as the top three overall. The scores (which count the top three girls from each team) had Fort LeBouf second at 277, Warren 298, Erie High 331 and Meadville coming in last place.
The medalist was a tie between Genelia Kang and Bella Deaten with 82 each, and Ella Bickel was third with an 84.
For Warren, Kate Shippee came in eighth place individually with a 92 and Elissa Errett 10th with 100. Rounding out the scoring was Maddie Walker with a 106, Allie Lauffenburger 109, and JoJo Gray with 122.
“It is worth mentioning that at the challenging Meadville Country Club today both Kate Shippee and Elissa Errett had career-best nine-hole scores during the match with Shippee 41 and Errett 47,” said Warren coach Scott Pearson.
“The girls have shown remarkable improvement since last year and throughout the season,” he said. “They have really put forth effort in the offseason and during the season with private instruction, extra practice, and hard work. Other teams have taken notice as some of the opposing coaches have remarked that Warren has been the surprise of the season so far with their improved play since last year. Their scores are averaging between 12-to-18 strokes better for an 18-hole round since last year. I am really proud of everyone’s effort and dedication and look forward to helping them become more consistent and confident in their abilities.”
The season results in the division now stand at McDowell with 15 points, Fort LeBouf at 12, Warren at 9, Erie at 6, and Meadville at 3 with two more Mega Matches to play.
Warren’s next match is an invitational scheduled for Sept. 5 at Coudersport and the next Mega Match is a home match at Blueberry Golf Course on Sept. 17.
