Area residents may have seen or heard the phrase, “Her fight is our fight, Christy Strong,” around town recently and have been curious about it.
Well, that is the phrase that Christy Taylor’s family and friends are using to bring awareness and support to Christy’s ongoing battle with cancer.
When her daughter, Allison, who is an incoming freshman at Eisenhower, found out about her mom’s battle, they naturally wanted to help in any way possible. Unsure of what to do or how to help, members of the Lady Knights basketball team spoke with their head coach, D.J. Steinberg, and they decided to do what they know best — play basketball.
Steinberg reached out to his counterparts at Youngsville and Warren, who immediately wanted to help, and the three teams quickly became one in support of Christy. What they came up with is charity exhibition games between the three Warren County girls basketball teams. The exhibition games will be Friday at the Warren YMCA starting at 6 p.m. when Youngsville will play Warren. At 7 p.m., Eisenhower will play Youngsville; and at 7 p.m. Warren will play Eisenhower.
There will be basket raffles, 50/50 raffles and concessions. Admission is by donation.
T-shirts will be available for sale in each school’s colors with the “Christy Strong” logo on them. The organizers are still collecting monetary donations and baskets. All proceeds will go to the Taylor family. Any questions regarding this event can be sent to Ladyknightsbasketballboosters@gmail.com.
