Geneva downs Skunks

GENEVA, N.Y. — Alex Deutsch scattered five hits over seven shutout innings as the Geneva Red Wings beat the Jamestown Tarp Skunks 10-0 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Friday at McDonough Park.

Deutsch struck out five and walked two, allowing just four singles and a double, as fifth-place Geneva improved to 11-15 in the West Division. Fourth-place Jamestown fell to 14-16.

A scoreless game through three innings eventually got away from the Tarp Skunks.

Matt Jennings singled and scored Geneva’s first run in the fourth inning on a Joe Tiroly RBI single.

The Red Wings added seven runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Hugh LeMasters, Ryan Grace and Jennings, a bases-loaded pitch that hit Zac Butler, and a bases-clearing double from Tiroly.

Tyson Bryant-Dawson hit an RBI double and later scored in the sixth inning for Geneva’s final two runs.

Austin Matranga (Grand Canyon University) had a pair of singles and Aidan Wallace (University of Tampa) doubled for Jamestown. Leo Doyle (Wagner College) and Eli Harpalani (Catawba Valley Community College) each added a single for the Tarp Skunks, who got just one runner to third base in the game.

Sam Hough (Bates College) started for Jamestown, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out one. Griffin White (Wagner College) allowed the final two runs on a hit and two walks while striking out three.

The Tarp Skunks will host the Niagara Falls Americans at 2 p.m. Sunday at Diethrick Park. The Bark in the Park game is sponsored by Purina.
