Tarp Skunks split pair over weekend

ELMIRA — Leo Doyle (Wagner College) went 4 for 4, but the rest of the Jamestown Tarp Skunks added just two more hits in a 7-2 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League loss to the Elmira Pioneers on Sunday afternoon.

Brady Wright (Santa Fe Community College) took the loss on the mound for the Tarp Skunks, allowing five runs (two earned) over four innings, giving up six hits and a walk while striking out three. Peyton Ahlstrom (Fredonia State University) threw the final four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two.

In addition to Doyle’s four singles, Aidan Wallace (University of Tampa) and Brandon McClain-Banks (Youngstown State University) each chipped in a single.

Elmira led 1-0 after the first inning on Darryn Callahan’s RBI double and 2-0 after the second inning. The Pioneers’ Bobby Marsh tacked on a sacrifice fly in the third inning before Coy Schwanger’s two-run double in the fourth inning made it 5-0.

Jamestown’s two runs came in the top of the sixth inning as Connor Kiefer (Alfred State University) scored on a passed ball and McClain-Banks scored when Bobby Stang (University of Dayton) grounded into a double play.

Cooper Smith hit an RBI double and Marsh hit another sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to cap the scoring.

SATURDAY

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Brandon McClain-Banks (Youngstown State University) walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Jamestown Tarp Skunks beat the Niagara Falls Americans 6-5 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Saturday night at Diethrick Park.

Nigel Sebastianelli (Niagara County Community College) and Bobby Stang (University of Dayton) each had a pair of hits as the Tarp Skunks totaled nine singles in the game.

Rob Dorn (University of Maryland-Baltimore County) earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out four while allowing two walks and a hit.

Jamestown led 4-0 after the first inning. Sebastianelli and Stang hit one-out singles before moving up on a wild pitch. Kobe Jones (Shorter University) then hit an RBI infield single and stole second before DJ Stoianovich’s (Mansfield University) two-run single. Stoianovich later scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

Niagara Falls made it 4-2 in the top of the second, but Jamestown got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Aidan Wallace (University of Tampa) walked and later scored when Eli Harpalani (Catawba Valley Community College) reached on an error.

The Americans made it 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning and then tied the game in the top of the eighth.

But Doyle shut the door from there and allowed the Tarp Skunks to walk off in the bottom of the 10th.

Eli Shedd (Wagner College) threw the first three innings, allowing two runs on three walks and a hit while striking out four. Griffin Snyder (Clarion University) threw the next three innings, allowing a run on three hits and three walks while striking out three. Austin Kalsek (Grand Canyon University) then threw 1 2 /3 innings and Niagara Falls tied the game before Dorn finished the game.

The Tarp Skunks are now 4-2 on the season and tied for second place in the West Division. Jamestown will visit Auburn on Tuesday to take on the Doubledays at Falcon Park.
