Youngsville drops pair of softball games Thursday

ROCKY GROVE — Youngsville’s softball season came to a close Thursday with an 8-0 setback at the hands of Rocky Grove.

The Eagles got a strong pitching effort from senior Madison Carnahan who allowed only two earned runs over the opening four innings. Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles surrendered six additional unearned runs thanks in large part to four Youngsville errors.

Youngsville, which finishes its season at 2-17, had hits from Haley Gray, Marli Rectenwald and Rachael Lucks in the loss.

WEDNESDAY

SAEGERTOWN 9, YOUNGSVILLE 0

YOUNGSVILLE — Facing Saegertown standout pitcher Mikalia Obenrader, the Youngsville Eagles completed their home softball schedule with a 9-0 rain-shortened loss to the Panthers Wednesday at Youngsville High School.

The Panthers got off to a quick start Wednesday, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first. The Eagles settled in after that, retiring six straight batters thanks to the strong pitching of Kamden Swearingen and outstanding defense from third baseman Molly Helman and first baseman Corinthia Edwards.

Mother Nature took control in the fourth inning with Saegertown scoring three more runs prior to the game being delayed for heavy rain. The Panthers added additional damage after the brief delay and ultimately the game was called when rain returned in the fifth inning.

The Eagles were successful in putting the ball in play, but Saegertown’s strong defense would keep them from building a scoring threat. Madison Carnahan had a single in the second inning and a walk in the fifth to lead the Eagles.
