Warren falls to Prep in D10 team semifinals

ERIE — Warren’s season came to a close on Friday in a District 10 2A semifinal playoff loss at the hands of eventual champion Cathedral Prep at Westwood Racquet Club.

“We knew going into this it was going to be a challenging match,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino of the Dragons’ 5-0 loss to Prep. “They swept both the singles and doubles events at districts this year and have beaten every D10 opponent in the regular season, 5-0. We just told our boys to get out there and give everything they had and, although the scores don’t showcase it, we saw some great tennis today.”

At top singles, D10 singles champ Jonah Ng defeated Warren’s Abe Wolf, 6-0, 6-0.

At second singles, the D10 singles runner-up and part of the doubles champions, Gavin Ferretti, defeated Adam Strandburg, 6-2, 6-0.

At third singles, Prep’s Colin Troutman defeated Carson Moore, 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, the Prep pair of James Casella (part of the D10 doubles champs) and Cameron Greishaber defeated Jack Lynds and Lucas Thrift, 6-0, 6-1.

At second doubles, Drew Brown and Ty Hulick defeated Warren’s Brody Alexander and Ben Scott, 6-0, 6-2.

“Although it’s always tough to end the season this way, we are very proud of what our boys accomplished this season,” said Pellegrino. “We end the year with a 10-3 overall record and as Region 1 champions.”

Prep went on to defeat Fairview (also 5-0) on Friday to advance to the PIAA 2A first round at noon Tuesday back at Westwood Racquet Club against North Catholic.
