Unearned runs help Corry top Warren

Warren led 2-0 before four unearned runs handed Corry a 4-2 Region 5 win over the Dragons on Monday at Old Legion Field.

“Brady (Berdine) threw great again — no earned runs, but we didn’t make the plays we needed to make in the second (inning),” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison, whose Dragons are 2-8 in the region.

Ahead 2-0, Corry scored four times in the second with a one-out double, hit by pitch, single, strikeout, strikeout and wild pitch allowing the batter to reach, and a two-run error.

Berdine struck out four batters in the inning. For the game, the senior allowed five hits and four unearned runs over six innings, striking out 11 with one walk.

Warren took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Konnor Hoffman walked and Eric Dippold reached on an error, Aidan Zdarko scored Hoffman with a sacrifice fly and Carter Cochran doubled home Dippold.

Corry senior Hunter Jordan threw four innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and two walks for the win. Karson Chamberlin earned the save with three hitless innings, walking one and striking out four.

“Same story; just not good enough at all offensively,” said Morrison. “We had a couple miscues on the bases and in the field, and when you aren’t hitting, it’s hard to survive those.”

Corry is 3-9 in the region. Warren has two more region games the next two days at Mercyhurst University — at Erie High today and at Cathedral Prep on Wednesday.
