Stuart, Warren shut out Erie 8-0

Alana Stuart hit her eighth home run of the season and struck out 14 batters in an 8-0 Region 5 win over Erie High on Monday at Lady Dragons Field.

Stuart was 2 for 3 with a walk at the plate, doubling home a run in a three-run bottom of the third. Malysia Sorensen and Alexis Jones followed with RBI singles.

An inning later, Stuart’s two-run homer to left upped Warren’s lead to 5-0.

After walks to Madison Cornman and Natasha Ferry, Emma Gray, Jones and Alanna Warrior added singles in a three-run sixth inning.

“Offensively, we had a slow start,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “The second time around, we let them be more aggressive and it worked out much better.”

Alana Stuart pitched to just two batters over the minimum, allowing two hits in the shutout win.

“Danika Abbey made a catch in right field to keep them off the bases in the first inning,” said coach Stuart, whose Dragons are 3-10 overall and 3-7 in the region. “Emma Gray fielded a couple pop flies as well. We made the easy outs and it makes a huge difference in the outcome of the game.”

Warren again plays Erie High (0-10 in the region) today at Erie.

Also Monday, Warren’s junior varsity team lost 15-6 after four innings. Braiden Stewart and Sydney Barr had hits each for Warren, and Tori Solberg, Alexis Stec, Riley Cull, Peyton Hagg and Olivia Romanosky added hits.
