Sheffield boys win, girls swept

The Sheffield boys track & field team (5-3) knocked off Johnsonburg 82-64 and DuBois Central Catholic 92-53 on Thursday, while the girls (1-7) were swept by both the Rams (73-46) and Cardinals (97-37).

Aamond Bowman took first in long jump (17 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (38-2) and Dylan Hardwick placed second in high jump (5-6) to DCC’s Marek Hoyt (5-10). Hardwick (2:15.09), Chase Kyler (2:24.05) and Marc Lewis (2:27.68) took the top three spots in the 800 meters. The three were also part of the winning 3,200-meter relay (9:09.87) alongside Alex Eaton. Lewis, joined by Christopher Joblon, Austin Fiscus and Colby Barr, won the 1,600-meter relay (4:15.03).

Eaton came in first in the 1,600 meters (5:21.66) and second in the 3,200 meters (12:35.16). Barr was a couple of seconds from victory in both the 100 meters (11.98) and 400 meters (57.70), falling to DCC’s Andrew Green in each.

Wyatt Newark was the lone throwing-event winner for Sheffield, earning the top spot in javelin (124 feet).

Emma Roell and Sarah Hoffman were Sheffield’s only winners on the girls’ side. Hoffman took first in the 300-meter hurdles (54.04) and came in second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.77) and 200 meters (29.98). Roell won discus (87-3). Madison Snell came in second in shot put (30-0) just ahead of Emily Foster (29-0). Foster also took second in high jump (4-6). Chloe Robinson came in second in long jump (12-9).

“It was a night of warm heat, a fast track, and great competition,” said Sheffield head coach Jason Snell. “Lots of new (personal records) that may not have won events, but pushed lots of folks on the boys and girls sides that much closer to district qualifying.”
