Several Warren athletes will compete on Saturday at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 10 2A Track and Field Championship meet at Slippery Rock University, “and in a few areas, we are looking to qualify for states next weekend,” according to Warren coach Kevin Dustin.

“We have several people inside the top 10 in their events,” said Dustin. “Sam Lindell in the 3,200 meters is 4 seconds off the auto time to go to states. Our girls 4-by-100-meter (relay) team of Lilly Newton, Maddie Nosel, Lindsay Madigan and Laney Gatto is currently ranked second and looking for a big race.

“Lilly is close in the high jump as well. Laney is ranked second in pole vault and has cleared the states auto height previously and is looking to continue her success,” Dustin added. “Morgan Alexander is primed for a big 3,200 meters as she is one of four girls in the race to have run sub-12 minutes this year.”

In addition, Quinn Norris, Brynn Norris, Emma Peterson, Riley Evan, Kylie Fehlman, Zoe Rodgers and Adison Cullers will compete at districts for the first time, “hoping to compete at their best to gain some experience and come away with some hardware,” added Dustin. “A few returners like Tori McMichael and Alexia Bowers are hoping to go out on a high note for their senior year.

“These kids have worked hard to get to where they are and are all ready to give it all to see some success at the end of the year,” he said.

The top two in each D10 event on Saturday, and those who achieve the state-qualifying standard, qualify for states. A season ago, Newton, as a freshman, earned a silver in the D10 2A 400 meters to qualify for states.
