Lady Dragons win region track & field title
WATTSBURG — Warren’s girls track team defended its Region 4 track and field title on Tuesday, finishing with an undefeated regular season after an 82-68 win at second-place Seneca.
“We had it all on the line at Seneca today for the boys and the girls teams,” Warren coach Kevin Dustin said. “Winners walked away with region championships. Our boys fought hard, but were outdone by a strong Seneca team. Our girls were in a close one, but ended up coming away 82-68 victors. They really stepped up in areas we needed to ensure a team success. Very proud of them for competing and going after it as a team. Congratulations to the girls team on an undefeated season and region championship. We now set our sights on districts and hope to get to the state championships.”
Leading the Lady Dragons were Morgan Alexander, Brynn Norris and Riley Evan finishing 1-2-3 in both the 800 and 1,600 meters, and Alexander won the 3,200 meters as well. Lindsay Madigan was first in triple jump and javelin, Lilly Newton in high jump, Kylie Fehlman in shot put, and Laney Gatto in pole vault.
Adison Cullers (300 hurdles), Madigan (100), Madelyn Nosel (200), Newton (400), Gracie Page (long jump and pole vault), and Fehlman (discus and javelin) contributed with second-place finishes.
Warren’s boys team suffered its first region loss of the season, 119-31 to Seneca, but received first-place finishes from Sam Lindell in both the 1,600 and 3,200 and Lucas Douvlos in javelin.
