Ike baseball, softball fall at Werner Park

RUSSELL — It was not a good day for the Eisenhower baseball or softball teams Tuesday at Werner Park, as both teams suffered losses on the diamond.

The Lady Knights ran into a buzzsaw as Saegertown’s Mikaila Obenrader tossed a five-inning no-hitter. She struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced, and did not walk anyone off en route to a 10-0 victory.

Eisenhower closed out its season with a 1-16 overall record.

The Lady Knights had a very young roster with only two seniors that played this year.

“Certainly not the record we wanted but we had a young roster and many girls received a lot of playing time,” Eisenhower head coach Rich Pascuzzi said. “We will certainly miss our seniors but hopefully they laid the foundation for the future.”

The Eisenhower boys welcomed Union City and suffered a 7-2 loss to the Bears.

The Knights outhit Union City 10-9 for the game, but found themselves down 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth before pushing two runs across the plate thanks to a Derek Childs double.

Childs went 2 for 3 in the game. Aayden Nichols and Mason Degnan also had two hits apiece.

The Knights close out their season today when they welcome first-place Saegertown to Werner Park for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
