Warren falls to Maple Grove
LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — Warren’s boys tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, edged 3-2 by Maple Grove at the Lakewood YMCA.
“This is a match we always look forward to every year,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “Maple Grove always has a solid roster and they currently have two of the top boys in the section in the DeMink twins. … Since we traveled to them, we also got to experience the new New York format for tennis, which is 2-3 — two singles matches and three doubles, which allowed us to start an additional player today.”
At top singles, Warren’s Abe Wolf fell 0-6, 0-6 to Fletcher Demink.
Warren’s Adam Strandberg lost 0-6, 2-6 to Trey Demink.
At first doubles, Warren’s Carson Moore and Jack Lynds defeated Jack Sherry and Caleb Barton 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
At No. 2, Warren’s Ben Scott and Lucas Thrift fell to Keegan Rishel and Nate Cresanti 3-6, 3-6.
At third doubles, the Warren pair of Brody Alexander and Collin Ellis defeated Logan Crist and Tyler Hatfield 6-0, 6-0.
“Although we fell a little short in this one, it was a great nonregion matchup that will only make us better,” said Pellegrino. “We had some nice highlights today in our (number) 1 and 3 doubles slots. Carson and Jack played some of their best tennis all season and won a two-hour battle against a great team and Brody and Collin went out there and got things done, highlighting the depth of our roster.”
Warren is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 1 with a region match today in Sharon at Buhl Park.
