YOUNGSVILLE — Youngsville sent its seniors out the way they have spent much of the last four years.

As winners.

Youngsville (8-2, 7-2 Region 3) jumped out to a 12-2 lead through three innings and cruised to victory with a 15-5 win over the Iroquois Braves on Monday at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.

The team’s six seniors — Matt DeSimone, Nathan Lucks, Wyatt Dalrymple, Lane Buccardo, Alex Patch and Gavin Bundy — were all key contributors as the Eagles returned to their winning ways after a hard loss to Maplewood on Friday.

The win wasn’t a perfect effort as some of the defensive woes from Friday’s game carried over to the first inning of Monday’s outing. Iroquois took advantage of back-to-back errors with two outs in the first to score two runs and grab an early 2-0 advantage.

The Eagles’ bats made sure that wouldn’t stay the case for long.

DeSimone doubled, Talon Mesel delivered the first of his four hits and Lucks bunted for a hit to load the bases for sophomore cleanup hitter David Manning. Manning did his job bringing home a pair with a two-run single that tied the game.

Moments later, Dalrymple put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Lucks and give Youngsville the lead. Before the inning was over, Manning’s courtesy runner Rylan Benton and James Johnson would score on passed balls to make it 5-2 after an inning.

The offensive onslaught continued in the bottom of the second. Ethan Beers and DeSimone belted back-to-back triples to make it 6-2 and Mesel’s second hit of the game pushed the lead to five. Dalrymple drove home his second run of the game later in the inning and Lucks scored on an overthrow to make it 9-2.

In the third, DeSimone collected his third extra base hit of the game with a two-run double that scored Cole Johnson and Beers and Mesel soon drove home DeSimone to push the lead into double digits.

An RBI groundout from Patch in the bottom of the fourth made it 13-2 and the Eagles needed just three more outs to end the game in the fifth.

To its credit, Iroquois refused to go down without a fight, manufacturing a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and shutting down Youngsville in the bottom to force a sixth inning to be played.

The Braves got a run in the top of the sixth to close the gap to 13-5, but Youngsville soon found a way to put the game on ice.

Dalrymple and James Johnson started the sixth with singles and Johnson soon scored on Bundy’s RBI hit. DeSimone followed and hit a ball to short that was misplayed, allowing Patch to score and end the game via the 10-run rule.

Mesel was a perfect 4 for 4 in the win for the Eagles. DeSimone added three hits and Lucks, Dalrymple and Beers all collected two hits apiece.

Manning, Dalrymple and DeSimone combined to pitch all six innings and did not allow an earned run.

Youngsville returns to action Wednesday when it visits Cochranton for another important Region 3 battle with the Cardinals.
