The Warren Youth Climbing League was back in action last Monday at The Goat Fort.

Matchups featured Whirley vs. Slick Text and Bent Run vs. Kinzua Vet Clinic.

The first match was exciting and saw some great climbing. Slick Text came out strong and put up points fast. Lane Morrison and Alivia Glotz led the way with 1,180 points apiece. Scarlett Wymer, Riley Littlefield and Leonora Ignatius also scored well with 842, 820 and 715, respectively. Whirley fought back with some hard-earned tops. Connor Ash, Avery Woldt, Finley LaVigne and Wesley Hornstrom earned over 500 points apiece. Both Owen Ash and Nina Woldt topped their hardest boulders yet, each racking up 1,180 points. However, it would not be enough to overcome Slick Text. The final score was Slick Text 6,239 to Whirley’s 5,502.

“Climbing involves solving problems both mentally and physically, and these kids have been putting in the work in both facets to improve,” said Jake Prindle-Cassidy, Slick Text coach. “I’m stoked to see them getting after it and having so much fun climbing together.”

The next match saw the Bent Run team jump to an early lead. Lily White scored on the three hardest climbs and racked up 1,350 points. Teammates Gabriella Bango, Haidyn Simpson, Ruth Sienkiewicz and Bella Smith also scored well with 830, 628, 623 and 621, respectively. Midway through the meet Kinzua Vet Clinic rallied with hard-earned tops. Chase Long and Cole Miller racked up 1,310 and 1,074, respectively. In addition, Marshall Harrington and Evan Wellner had personal bests, scoring 872 and 829, respectively. KVC eventually pulled ahead in the waning minutes, coming out on top 5,812 to 5,552.
