Miscues cost Warren in loss to Meadville

Six Warren errors helped unbeaten Meadville jump out to a 6-1 lead on Tuesday en route to a 6-4 Region 5 baseball win at Old Legion Field.

“Too many errors to beat a good team, much less an undefeated one,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison, whose Dragons are 1-3 in the region. Meadville is 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the region. “Took a little too long to wake up offensively, too. (We) have to shake it off with a road game at a really good 6A school (McDowell on Wednesday).”

Trailing 6-1, Warren finally got to Meadville starting pitcher A.J. Feleppa, who had not given up a run in 12 2/3 innings prior to Tuesday. Eric Dippold’s “no-doubter to left-center field,” according to Morrison, also scored Carter Cochran, who had doubled. Aidan Zdarko also walked in the frame and scored on Eli Snyder’s base hit, so three of Warren’s four hits came in the bottom of the sixth inning.

On the mound, “Brady (Berdine) was sharp,” added Morrison. “Ten strikeouts to no walks is something we will take every time. Meadville is a really good offensive team that put some good swings on a few balls and found some holes on others.”

Meadville outhit Warren 10-4, but only three of six runs were earned.
