GUYS MILLS — A pair of disastrous innings Friday doomed Youngsville to its second loss of the season, a 14-6 Region 3 setback to Maplewood.

The Eagles (7-2) allowed six runs in the third inning and seven runs in the sixth inning to hamper any chances of victory against the Tigers.

Youngsville actually scored the first run of the night when Matt DeSimone was able to race home in the top half of the third inning, but the lead would prove to be short-lived.

The Tigers came roaring back with six runs in the bottom of the third, including three runs that scored directly off of Youngsville errors. Jacob Woge had an RBI single in the inning, Chase Koelle added an RBI double and Paul Hirosky drove home a run with a base hit.

The five-run lead was pushed to six in the bottom of the fourth when Maplewood’s Levi Willison delivered an RBI single.

The Eagles appeared to be clawing their way back into things in the fifth inning when they pushed four runs across the dish.

James Johnson started the inning by reaching on an error and Nathan Lucks crushed his first homer of the season during the next at-bat to make it a 7-3 game.

Later in the inning, Youngsville loaded the bases when David Manning reached on an error and Braydon Baker and Lane Buccardo drew walks. Talon Mesel came through in the clutch, delivering a two-out, two-run single that cut the advantage to two.

Then, the wheels came off.

Maplewood sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and scored seven runs to put the game out of reach.

Mesel would add another RBI single to score Baker in the bottom of the seventh, but that was as close as the Eagles would get.

Youngsville returns to action Monday when it hosts Iroquois at Davis Street Field.
