Youngsville’s Mancuso advances to districts next week

MEADVILLE — Youngsville’s Aidan Mancuso finished fourth in the 189-pound weight class during this weekend’s District 10 Class AA Section 1 Tournament held at Meadville Area Senior High School.

The top seven in each weight class advanced to next weekend’s District 10 Class AA Tournament being held at Sharon Area High School.

Mancuso entered the tournament seeded fourth and earned a bye in the championship quarterfinals. There, he wrestled a smart match to gain a 3-1 decision victory over Seneca’s Paul Spires that placed him in the championship semifinals.

In the semis, Mancuso squared off with the tournament’s top seed in Fort LeBoeuf’s Connor McChesney. McChesney won via pin sending Mancuso to the consolation bracket semifinals.

The Eagles senior dug deep and earned a dominant 10-1 major decision over Girard’s Tyler Pawlik which left him battling for third place on the weekend. Mancuso had to settle for fourth after falling to Titusville’s Kaleb Brunst via second period pin.

Several other Youngsville wrestlers competed and saw their respective seasons come to a close during the tournament. Those grapplers included Michael Carnahan (133 pounds), Kenneth Shellhouse (139), Carsyn Branstrom (145), Gavin Olson (152), Graeme Minnis (215) and Connor Minnis (285).

“It’s difficult to summarize how the kids competed because the numbers don’t tell the tale we want to convey to them,” said Youngsville coach David Myers. “There was not one quitter in the bunch. Everyone went down swinging. We’ve seen drastic improvement in our young team over the season regardless of our record and I couldn’t be more proud.”
