MEADVILLE — Host Meadville edged Warren’s girls swim team on Thursday.

With the exception of diving, Meadville captured all the first-place finishes in a 90-83 girls win. Warren competed hard enough to take it all the way to the last event.

“Meadville just scraped out a win over our girls,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “It came down to the last relay. If we won it, we win by 1 (point). Our girls battled the whole meet as it was back and forth. We finally qualified (for districts) in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and had some PRs by Lexi Paris in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, Leyna Irwin in the 200-yard individual medley and Violet Spiegel in the 100-yard freestyle.”

Samantha Caudill had a close second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:53.04, and was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:31.43. Lilly Newton and Spiegel finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:19.42 and 1:19.52, respectively, and Newton was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.49 seconds. Katie Krogler was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.45. Paris was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:13.90. Irwin was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.74.

Kinzlea Chase won the diving event with 209.9 points followed by teammate Eliza Brook’s 169.3.

“Eliza had a beautiful inward one-somersault tuck that resulted in judges scores of 7, 8.5 and 9 out of 10,” said Warren diving coach Brandon Gregg. “Kinzlea followed suit with another amazing inward one-somersault tuck with judges scores of 7.5, 8, and 8 out of 10.”

In the team loss, Warren’s two boys had first-place finishes from Brody Alexander in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.85) and Drake Niemetz in the 100-yard freestyle (51.45). Niemetz and Alexander were second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke with Niemetz’s PR in 1:10.96.
