The Youngsville Little Eagles made the short journey over to Corry High School on Saturday to compete in the Tim Edwards Memorial Tournament.

Many Little Eagles wrestlers competed across both the morning and afternoon sessions with several wrestlers bringing home hardware in the process.

In the morning session, Youngsville had two champions crowned. Tucker Sanford, competing at 12U 125 pounds, picked up a quick fall in his first bout and followed it up with a thrilling third-period pin to win over Tom Worth of Harbor Creek. Collin Havers was champion of the 12U 135-pound division. Havers first knocked off two-time state champion Carter Rudish of Slippery Rock by fall and then pinned Brayden Feltenberger of Cochranton to make it to the finals. In the finals, Havers made quick work of his opponent, winning by fall in the first period. Johnathan Sullivan placed second at 12U 160 pounds with his only loss coming to James Griffin of Ragin’ Raisins. Kinsley Dean took fourth for the Little Eagles at Girls 10U 65 pounds.

In the afternoon session, the Little Eagles had additional success. Ayden Dean led the way for Youngsville with a second-place finish at 15U 102 pounds. Dean avenged his ultimate tiebreaker loss to Corry’s Finley Fourspring at last week’s tournament in Meadville, winning by a score of 2-0. Mason Fleming took third at 15U 132 pounds in dramatic fashion. With the match tied at zero and the seconds ticking away, Fleming utilized a big mat return and half to knock off Gavin Reynolds of Maplewood 3-0. Cousins Maci and McKenzie Hodak both took third in their respective divisions. Brian Riel took third at 10U 150 pounds, edging out teammate Chayse Kubecki by a score of 2-0.

Also wrestling, but not placing, for the Little Eagles were: Brenton Myers, Brayden Patch, Ryker Chase, Miya Rotondelli, Parker Drake, Jacob Battko, Kole Renwick, Brantley Coleson, Luke Baxter, Hunter Olewine and Blake Winkels.

“I feel like this was a good tune up for next weekend’s Area 8 state-qualifier tournament.” said junior high coach Tim Suydan, “We had some good moments over the course of the day. We also had some moments that left us scratching our heads. But, that’s the nature of the beast. Tucker finishing off his match with a pin was a real high. Collin knocking off Carter was a good moment too. I was also glad to see our girl wrestlers doing well today. I know Dan and his staff have been working hard to make those girls as successful as possible. Overall though, I think it was a good day for us. We’ll need to build on it if we’re to perform to our capabilities next weekend.”
