Warren’s girls basketball team jumped out to a 16-5 first-quarter lead en route to a 60-41 nonregion win over DuBois on Saturday at Warren Area High School.

The Dragons made a concerted effort from the start to get the ball inside to senior forward Halle Kuzminski. She scored 7 points in the opening frame and finished with a game-high 19 — 17 through three quarters — in Warren’s ninth straight win.

“It was nice to move the girls in and out and get some different rotations going today,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, whose Dragons are 15-4 overall.

Meea Irwin finished with 9 points, Alyssa Farr 8, Alana Stuart 7, Emma Roell and Sammie Ruhlman 6 each, and Peyton Wotorson 5.

Warren finished 6 of 7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, but LaVan said the Dragons have room for improvement.

“I wasn’t very happy with our defense in general,” she said. “We cannot take nights off on the defensive end. That is not how it works in our program.”

Lynx Lander led DuBois (3-14) with 15 points.
